LOCAL REPORTS.
If you are after a feed of bream, silver trevally, flounder and the odd dusky flathead the bay is the place to be at the moment. Over the past few months I have been fishing the Hawkesbury River, Pittwater, Sydney and Middle Harbours, the Parramatta, Iron Cove and Lane Cove River, Botany Bay and the Port Hacking and by far Botany Bay has been the best of the bunch.
Try fishing the run-out tides at the oil wharf, Watts Reef and Bare Island. While the tide is coming in I would try the end of the third runway, the middle of the bay the drums and Towra Point. All these places have been producing yellowfin bream, whiting, silver trevally, dusky flathead and the odd kingfish.
I was out with George and Anthony I a day on the bay and we managed to get amongst the yellowfin bream and silver trevally. The key to their success is that they now use berley, peel their prawns and use lone leaders when there is a fair bit of run in the
Anthony (0n the right) caught this 73cm kingfish while chasing bream and silver trevally in the bay. It took Anthony 20 mintues to land the fish. He was use a Diawa Heartland rod and 6 pound line. The kingfish took a peeled prawn. A great job was done by Anthony and he listened to every thing I told him to do while I was driving the boat, even though he was a little bit tired at the end.

George (on the left) caught this 2.8 kilo silver trevally while fishing off the end of the third runway in Botany Bay.
The Port Hacking is still producing the odd large kingfish, dusky flathead and whiting, but you should start to get amongst a few leatherjackets, luderick and silver trevally.
At the moment the lower Sydney Harbour is being plagued by small chinaman leatherjackets, so much so that the last time I was out there I was putting down a yellowtail for a live bait it was getting eaten by hordes of very small yellowtail. What a way to go being eaten alive bit by bit.

Maybe when you get a chance you too can send me a photo of what you have caught and a brief description of what you used and where you caught it.
